Can't argue with 94 years, though.
My favourite memory of Les Paul is when he convinced John Lowery, AKA John5 Marilyn Manson's former guitarist to go solo. I think the story goes that John went along to the jam session that Les Paul hosts, and all the guys who play get up there and jam with him. Imagine that! Jamming with Les Paul... anyway, John was bricking it when he went up there so he did his bit and went offstage as quick as he could, but Les called out to him: "You know, I've played with them all and you've really impressed me. You should put your own material out!"
This was about 5 years ago and John5 has put out 3 solo instrumental albums out since then. During that time he's got a lot of respect for those in the know for what a brilliant guitarist he actually is!
Still, my first electric guitar's a Les Paul copy, and even though it's knackered it's still my guitar and I wouldn't swap it for anything, even though I'm using the Mattocaster a lot now. So thanks to Les Paul for inventing one of the finest guitars you could possibly imagine. I'm glad he got to live to see at least some of his legacy...
